The best foods for weaning baby

Weaning is an important stage in the life of your baby. It is a new experience and so you may not be in a position to tell how the baby will take it. It takes some time before the baby actually gets used to tastes and textures of  food. Note that the baby should start taking solid foods after six months. Strain  from adding sweeteners, salt, honey or sugar on the baby’s food. Here is a list of foods you can introduce your child to.

Minced or Mashed foods- a wide range of starchy foods including bread, oats and breakfast cereals can be deal for babies between 7 and 9 months. Potatoes, millet, cornmeal and rice are recommended for such children. The baby should get 2 to 3 servings per day. Also, the baby should be given cooled and filtered water when it is thirsty. The mother can choose to give the child fruit juices as well. However, this should be done after the baby has been fed on other foods.

Citrus fruits- fruits such as oranges are good for babies. They should be given in between meals.

Proteins- the baby should be introduced to protein based foods such as lean red meat, fish, and poultry lentils.

Nut butters- if your family does not have a history of allergies and diseases, you can make nut butters and give it to the baby.

Dairy products- products such as cheese, yogurt and paneer can be introduced between the ages of 7- 9 months. However, milk should only be introduced as a drink at the age of 1 year.

Finger foods- These are foods such as cooked green beans, cubes of cheese, slices of banana and soft pear. They can be introduced between 7 -9 months.
