Taking care of your baby during winter
As a mother, you have the responsibility of ensuring that your baby is kept warm when winter storms in. However, if you are a new mom, it could pose a challenge especially when we consider that the baby is still small, yet they have to be fitted in bulky jackets and blankets. If you do not get assistance from experienced mothers, the task could be daunting.
Keep the baby warm without piling on blankets.
Your baby should not be covered with sheets when you put them to bed. This helps to reduce Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. According to experts, the baby should be put to sleep on their back without sheets and pillows. It is important to check and ensure that the room is not overheated as well.
Use soft pieces of footed sleepers to ensure that the baby is kept warm throughout the night. Make use of a sleeveless wearable blanket which allows the baby to freely move their arms around. You may also warm the bed with a hot water bottle or a heating pad but make sure to remove it before the child is put to sleep.
What to wear
If you are planning to leave the house with your baby during winter mornings, there is certainly a lot that should be done. To make it easier for you, here are some of the things you should do.
Buy a snowsuit to protect the child from the snow. Ensure baby is warmly dressed before slipping them into the snowsuit. If the day is frigid, wrap a warm blanket around the snowsuit. Cover the head with a mitten and a hat. The hat should be soft but keep the cold out and the mittens should be pulled over to cover the hands. Lastly, ensure that the baby is dressed in warm booties or socks.
