Managing weight gain during pregnancy

Managing weight gain during pregnancy

If you are pregnant and your body mass index is between 25 and 29.9 you are considered obese. As a result, it is necessary that you work on the weight to avoid developing gestational diabetes.  Unfortunately, during pregnancy is not the right time to go on a weight loss diet because restricting your food intake is hazardous to the developing fetus. Of course, we are aware that some women will lose weight in the first trimester because of morning sickness. The diminishing appetite caused by nausea and vomiting is enough to help them miss a few calories and lose weight. Here are the recommended methods to help you stay on track with weight if you are obese.

Ladies that are trying to conceive should check their weight and work on it before they become pregnant. This way, they reduce the need to engage in weight losing activities and will help them concentrate on carrying and taking care of the pregnancy.

Eating healthy – this is the most important thing you should do if you want to stay on track and avoid gestational diabetes and preeclampsia. Just ensure that you follow the seven principles of pregnancy and eat a balanced diet including drinking plenty of water every day.

Exercising- If you have not been exercising, you can start with pregnancy exercises for beginners. Low impact exercises such as swimming and walking are recommended. You may also engage in Low- impact aerobics at the advice of your healthcare provider. Ensure that you adhere and follow all the rules of exercising while pregnant.

Lastly, women who suffer from diabetic conditions must seek medical support throughout pregnancy.
