5 Pregnancy Dos and Don'ts
Being pregnant is exciting because there is so much to look forward to. That being said, there are tons of things you need to avoid doing when you are pregnant for the safety of you and your little bundle of joy. Knowing what is on and off limits when you are expecting can help you navigate this exciting time in your life easier.
Avoid Amusement Park Rides
It may not seem dangerous to hop on the ferris wheel for a quick spin, but sudden movements can be hazardous to your growing baby. Sudden movements may cause a condition called placental abruption. When this happens the placenta separates from the uterine wall.
Get a Manicure
You may have heard it is dangerous to get a manicure while you are pregnant. This is so not true. Getting a gel manicure should be avoided because of the chemicals, but a regular manicure with plain old nail polish is okay. Avoid nail polish that has DBP, toluene and formaldehyde along with the ultra violet drying lamp.
Avoid Teeth Whitening Products
It is not uncommon for a woman to want to look her best when she is pregnant, but it is best to avoid bleaching products when you are pregnant. It is not known what the chemicals used during whitening will do to your baby if you accidentally swallow them.
Even if you didn’t exercise before you got pregnant, in most cases it is safe to start an exercise regimen. Exercising can actually help make your labor and delivery easier. Before starting any exercise regimen check with your doctor to make sure they are on board with your plan.
Tuna fish in the can does have some mercury in it. However, one can, which is about 6 ounces, is safe to eat. In fact, you can eat chunk light tuna up to six times a month and white albacore tuna three times per month according to the American Pregnancy Association.
